I'm a Filipino-American artist from the South Dakota who
grew up running around Air Force bases across the US and
overseas, making up ghost stories and crafting adventures
for my fellow misfits.
I've been focusing most of my energy on playwriting recently,
and I adore it. My produced plays include WENDELL & PAN
(The Skeleton Rep and The Tank), VOID (The Skeleton Rep), ASWANG (Claire Donaldson New Play Festival), GAMES (Augustana Collaborative Theatrical Society), and MUSE (Manhattan Repertory Theatre). My full-length plays VOID and GOBLIN GIRLS both had readings at Primary Stages’ Einhorn School of Performing Arts. GOBLIN GIRLS and WENDELL & PAN were further developed as a part of The Skeleton Rep's Salon Series. VOID was a 2017 Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference semi-finalist and had a Workshop Production at The Tank (dir. Benjamin-Ernest Abraham) in June of 2018. I was also a semi-finalist for Ars Nova’s 2018 Play Group and a finalist for the 2018 Greenhouse Residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm. I'd say my plays share a dark comedic bite and a healthy dose of magic.
I've also written a short film, Queen's Knight, which is in post-production, and co-wrote two short films that were listed in the top 40 of the 2015 and 2016 Asian American Film Lab's 72-hour Shoot-Out, ’15 having been judged by playwright David Henry Hwang.
As far as directing goes, I last directed my short play MUSE for a one-act competition and am developing it into a short film script with my husband. In New York, I've also directed two short plays in ESPA's Detention series, and I hope to stretch my directing muscle again soon by directing an upcoming short film. One of my favorite directing projects was Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman (ACTS).
You may have last seen me acting in a musical showcase of Janine Robledo and Micah Joel's Chaundria and the Giant, produced by Three Act Theatre Company, or if you've really followed my work and traveled to South Dakota, you could have seen me play Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet (Bare Bodkins) or Emma in Betrayal (ACTS).
I studied at Primary Stages (Rockwell Scholar '17-'18), with industry professionals including Leah Nanako Winkler, A. Rey Pamatmat, Melissa Ross, and Edwin Sanchez, and received my B.A. from Augustana University, with majors in theatre, English, and a minor in journalism. I am pursuing my MFA in playwriting at Brooklyn College (expected May 2021).
